Introduction to the Book

The great freedom to live life but not be bound to it; the life of wisdom

This is a collection of poems by Teacher Woo Myung who founded Ma-Eum Su-Ryun, the meditation method of subtracting out one’s minds. These writings contain his earnest wish for all the people of the world to empty their minds and live comfortably without minds, like nature. It was first published in 1998 under the title True Poems, which was later revised to Mind and became more approachable and reader friendly. In the fall of 2017, thanks to the love and support of the readers, the book was revised and newly published. Teacher Woo Myung’s poems are written without embellishment. Not poems written for ostentation/show, they are poems that flow from pure consciousness. When you relax and savor the poems, your consciousness grows and your mind becomes endlessly comfortable.

Excerpts from the Book

When the wind blows,
I follow the wind;
and when the rain falls,
it soaks my body.
When you live life without minds,
life is simply what it is.
Without blaming time that continues to pass,
I just live.
Unaware of good or bad,
I just live.
p16 ‘Nature’s Flow I’

When your mind does not exist,
you become heaven and earth.
When even your self does not exist,
heaven and earth exist within you.
You become the master of all things.
p66 ‘Absence of Self’

Truth is something that can be found
only when it is sought.
Truth is that which can be found through cleansing
only when one actually cleanses his mind.
Truth is that which is true,
and what is true is the whole.
Therefore, if one does not become the whole,
it is not possible to find true Truth.
One must seek and cleanse
in order to find Truth
p72 ‘A Pure Mind’

Man and all creations have the same heart of the origin.
Their forms are not things that exist,
yet they are non-existent either.
There is a truly existing real existence –
all creations and their minds are all mind.
The original mind is not separate
from man’s mind and the minds of all creations
but ego or self
is different from the original mind,
because of greed.
Only when one sheds his greed, is he complete.
p103 ‘Mind III
